How To Be Sexier And Smarter At The Same Time

Knowledge is one of the most attractive things we can have.

Sometimes knowledge comes in the form of what we know, other times in the form of things we can do and skills we have.

We live in a world where it’s become more necessary than ever to have eclectic knowledge and diverse skillsets.

Men are running out of ways to feel special

It’s not enough that we make money or have status, because women today already have these things.

We have to work a little harder to be interesting

We cannot afford NOT to be a Renaissance man or woman with a variety of skillsets, art forms and knowledge bases.

Knowledge and skill is a good look on anyone – as is curiosity which inevitably leads us to these things.

And attraction is sustained for longer periods of time when you’re able to keep surprising your partner.

Challenge:

Go and learn about or study something that you have no real need for. Just do something new.

When you’ve decided, leave a comment about the thing you’ve picked. Then come back and leave another at the end of the week to let me know how you’ve gotten on! Do you feel more interesting? Do you have a story because of it?

Be sure to let me know as you’ll be giving me ideas for what I can go on to do next myself!

  • About a week ago I decided to sign up for Spanish classes at a local community college just because i’ve always wanted to learn. Then I saw this video and I thought, why stop there?! I love learning new things- this week will be learning more about polo :)

  • Hi Matt,

I agree wholeheartedly about learning something new to broaden your knowledge. I, myself, love it when I bring up something in a conversation that people did not expect me too. Even better when they are into that thing. I’m already on track at learning something new. I’m taking a class to enhance my intuitive ability. Next: becoming fluent in French; I already speak it some.

    Thanks Matt!

    Au revoir,

  • I enjoy watching an occasional sports game (baseball, football, etc.) but I’m not a huge sports fan either, so when I go to games, I can follow the plays just enough to enjoy it, but not enough to really follow technical referee calls. So I’m spending a part of my evening reading over the official rules of various sports I enjoy watching. Decided to attend a baseball game tomorrow and enjoy the benefits of learning my newly found knowledge! Can’t wait!
    Thanks, Matthew!

  • I enjoyed your video very much I find that I like to learn about new things each and everyday even if its on a subject I think I know about but I find I can always learn something new about that subject! I love to learn about animals and nature and I am always learning new things about that subject as well as new adventures! I have no shortage if curiosity for what happens around me! I am hoping to learn more about Australia cause I want to go there in about 3 or 4 years so I am always typing stuff about Australia and looking it up so I can figure out what areas I want to go too. I also have some friends in Australia and I always try to get knowledge from them as well cause they can give me a locals perspective!

  • I decided to take a MOOC bioethics. I know nothing about this subject but it sounds interesting. Also there is this bakery that I like that I just now decided to take a bread making class at. Who doesn’t like fresh baked bread.

I tend to switch areas of interest pretty frequently so I’m glad that my curiosity can actually can be honed into a skill.

  • Hi Matthew-
I feel that I am on the same track, always trying to learn something new. Over the years I’ve been involved in different activities, from taking Latin dance lessons (loved it), and attending lectures on history and architecture (also loved them) to more recently signing up for German lessons on Saturday mornings (couldn’t love them more.) I signed up for all of these because I find myself always craving knowledge, but as a collateral effect I’ve found it’s a great way to meet new people. And the idea about learning how to make one great meal is great, I’ve made it my next project. I always thought if I invite a guy over, I need to be able to make him at least one really great dinner. By the way, I want to give all of your blog readers another tip to have interesting topics for conversation fresh in your mind. I recently became a fan of TED talks. They’re easy to access, you just log onto ted.com, and you can watch relatively short (10 to 20 minute) talks on new and interesting topics. Thanks Matt for all of your great ideas!

  • Thank you for always keeping it real & challenging me to be a better person (independent from relationship status) As a Rolfer-in-training, I was tempted to study my passion- which is anything about biology & kinesiology. However, I decided to play by the rules and am memorizing 2 short poems instead. I selected Robert Frost’s “A Late Walk,” and wondered if you might have a recommendation for the second?

If you don’t know anything about ‘Rolfing’ I suggest that as a topic for your study :)

    Keep it real Hussey!

  • I love your post about knowledge. I completely agree that different skill sets make a person unique, more versatile and generally, a more worthwhile person. I know german, love singing, and dancing is my middle name and such, but I there is so much left to discover. I want to learn how to cook and know more about history, geography, philosophy, etc… It’s when I am exploring and learning that I meet the most interesting people. Like attracts like. Therefore, I have to be interesting to attract an interesting man.

  • Wow!!! You speak very fluent Chinese !!! I want to Learn Chinese, Japanese and Korean I have been learning since 5 years ago and I still can not be fluent . I also try to learn Kung fu wu shu and play guitar and piano . How do you learn speak chinese so well matt?

  • This idea came at the right time. Just this weekend I went to my first anime convention. For the last month I had been teaching myself to sew. In the end I had made my entire costume from scratch and was stopped every five minutes for picture. No one could believe that was the first costume I had ever made in my life. I learned a new skill that not only gave me something interesting to talk about, but also boosted my conference level a lot. By trying something new, I added something great to my life that I cannot wait to continue doing.

  • I think this was one of the best videos you’ve made yet! It’s funny that you chose to learn about Ancient Egypt, because that is a passion of mine. I have decided to download podcasts about Astronomy and outer space. Thanks so much! :)

  • I’ve been struggling a lot with finding peace in my every day life, especially after a few rough weeks. After seeing this I found a small book store and spent 2 hours immersed in the smell of old books and roasting coffee beans. I found this book, 365 Buddha, and started learning about the culture and meditations practiced. That inspired me to begin daily meditations and practicing inner peace and healing. It’s definitely changed my life! So thank you!

  • Hey! you know i have been thinking about learning sign language and i think I’m going to start with it. thanks for the push!

  • Hmm… sometimes learning new things is not only for becoming more attractive.. It will make our life so much more interesting too! :)

I wanna learn how to drive a car. :P
Hopefully can fly a plane next time! :D

  • Hey. I need some advice on something im confused about. I met this guy, and im in high school, and we met in band class. we got kinda close and we seemed to click, but he never really made a real move. Not even ask for my number. I tried everything for him to make the move, but he never did. And I don’t really know how to make the first move. And I’m kinda afraid to because I don’t know if he just wants to be friends or he’s too afraid to make the first move. I really don’t know what to do anymore and really need your help. So please help me in what to do. He seems like he likes me. But I don’t really know. I dont know if hes interested or not. He called me fat one day and it kinda hurt my feelings, and it kinda made me think, we’ll I guess he’s not attracted. I told my friends about what happened and they were awed and said that I wasn’t even a little bit fat, and say they don’t know what to do either. And it kinda kills my confidence cause it makes me think, I’m not even attractive enough for him to ask for my number? I just don’t know. Please help!

  • I actually did this a couple of weeks ago! I had a friend go with me to take a swing dancing (lindy hop/charleston type) class! I only went to that one, even though it is progressive but in that one day, I met someone! Can’t say if it will be anything special but learning new things really does bring people together! (:

  • I think a great way to learn and experience new things is also saying Yes to everything. I mean that single word has taken me sailing, downhill biking, bouldering… And I had my doubts! But also the best time of my life at the end :)
