Learn More About My New Book, Love Life

A Day in the Life of a Hussey

There’s a quote I’ve become obsessed with recently…

“Don’t compare your behind the scenes to somebody else’s highlight reel.”

I recorded this fun video to show you my ‘behind the scenes’… (Be sure to watch right to the end or you’ll leave just thinking I’m an ass!)

While I’ve shot this in a fun way, there is a big takeaway I want to leave you with:

Life can be monotonous.

Most people’s lives aren’t that interesting hour by hour, minute by minute.

However Facebook and other social media outlets have created a place for people to share only the most exciting parts of their lives.

This can lead us to thinking that our life pales in comparison to what others are doing (leaving us feel terrible).

There’s a quote that sums this up beautifully that I’ve become obsessed with…

“Don’t compare your behind the scenes to somebody else’s highlight reel.”

Looking at everyone else’s highlight reel through the lens of social media is demoralising and depressing.

The truth is, most people’s lives day-to-day are incredibly monotonous, and when you’re on a mission and trying to achieve something, it often requires you do the same things every day.

I don’t want us to become demoralised, and so I shot the video above to bring you back to reality and show how exciting my life really is.

We have to realise that social media is a facade, and that when we can stop comparing our lives to the highlight reels of others, we’ll be able to get more out of our own lives and enjoy our own day to day much more.

Once we see through this veneer, we have the ability to really focus on our own exciting adventure.

Question of the day:

– What’s the most boring thing you do every day to keep things improving? Let me know in the comments below!

  • I forgot to answer the question that you asked. A daily thing that I’ve been doing for about seven weeks is logging into myfitnesspal app on my phone to track exercise and to keep track of a food diary. I’m trying to get more in shape so that I will feel more confident dating because even though men like all shapes and sizes, I don’t really believe that. So, I’m taking your advice of creating not waiting. It’s a simple mantra but it’s so true.

I’ve heard that people can’t stand when people talk about exercise, etc. on social media so I rarely post about that kind of thing.

  • Haha! Hilarious! My routine has been studying. This Saterday is the first part of my English exam, so I hope I didn’t make to many mistakes in this message hihi :p
Afterwards I hope to see a “lovely” male friend of mine and celebrate all the hard work I’ve put into it ^_^

    Love, Tammy

Ps. Love your book! Thanks for sharing! I’ve learned so mutch! I had a great time taking it all in.. Laughed a lot aswell..

  • Hi Matt,
It’s almost too boring to write, there we go just what you are talking about, but I exercise. I trained as a ballet dancer so I do a workout and exercises. I hated it at first, too hard, and so monotonous I would just want to put it off. But now I get up earlier to do it, therefore have more day to get things achieved, feel goal driven, more energy and healthy.
I did actually start because there was a guy I lusted after with a great body and I figured looking blobby would not cut it. Who cares what he motivation, I ‘m now in a routine. Yes how boring and monotonous : )
Your shirt is lovely by the way, it really suits you, very suave.

  • Haha! I call it Fauxbook. Keep up the videos, I predict you’ll get a major roll in a major motion picture by the end of this year.

  • Thank you sooo much for that – it was hilarious and so true. My friend and I were talking the other day about how insecure other people’s Facebook pages made us feel.
I’ll be taking that quote with me for sure :)

  • I completely agree. I would actually say my daily boring thing is trying to keep up with social media for my business. To be fair, I don’t always think it’s boring. I love communicating with/hearing from people, but sometimes I’d rather not be in front of a computer or phone screen. I probably wouldn’t be on Facebook, Twitter or anything if it weren’t for ze business.

I will say it’s been a good challenge for me to “speak” more than I normally would. I’ll respond to things to push myself to be more vocal. Like your blog ;) so thanks for the opportunity and the humor!

  • Hahahaha that was hilarrrr!!! Esp the checking in @ Eva’s restaurant! Actually I’m sure there r some ppl who do that for real! Anyways nice video Matt! U got some acting skills!
I have a question for u… U’re good looking. But If u were not good looking, Would u be doing the job ure doing?
    Just curious me wondering…
    Xx Mel
and fyi I thought the English tea was missing some scones or crumpets ;)

      1. It’s obvious u’re passionate about what u do and u were meant to do that, no doubt! But somehow in today’s society good looks give an added credibility… Anyways for sure u gotta be grateful to mama hussey (n daddy hussey!) for those good genes ;) I could definitely get used to watching u on tv! Any other tv projects for the near future?
        xx Mel

  • Thanks for this Matt! I don’t usually comment, but I truly appreciate all of your advice! It is so encouraging and a slap in the face with truth… just what I need!

    1. Yes! I agree with you. I don’t comment, but so glad somebody used a platform to address this. We all have downtime & seemed to be taboo with sharing it fully. Matt, there is nothing wrong with a mug of PG-Tips! I grew up on that stuff. Viva la vida!

  • Matthew,

I have been enjoying all your video clips, but this one was probably one of my favorties. Thanks for daring to be so silly, it’s not often I get to see a GQ guy be totally “dorky”. I truly enjoy your sense of humor…keep them coming :)

  • Hey Matt

looool – how funny!!! Love this video – made me laugh so much – but defo agree with the point you are making. It all comes from “Core Confidence” – if one has that – there is no need to compare oneself to others. Carry on with the GREAT WORK!!!

  • From the comments, it looks like Facebook is dying out!

For my rather routine daily living like taking the same journey to work Mondays to Fridays, I do not find it boring because I have different mindset.

The thing which bores me most is football match on TV, I do not understand why 2 dozens men chase after a ball for half-a-day! What is the point?!

Matthew, I agree with Shannon’s comment! It is so funny! Do shave: there is a gadget called “electric shaver” which is extremely easy to use. Lol

  • Wow! You’re hilarious Matt!! Loved this one and all of the recent videos actually. I liked your outtakes at the end there especially! And I really enjoyed your message today and I am a firm believer in myself in that quote that you posted today. I believe that Facebook shows only snap shots of the best that is happening in peoples’ lives, but what it doesn’t show is your insecurities, frustrations, fears, and reality ultimately – as you had so eloquently put it.

As for the boring thing I do everyday to improve, I do it for my writing. I will myself to write something, anything, down at least once a day. Some days I can’t wait to write and other days it feels like such a trial. I stick to it though because this is my dream: I want to be a writer. I love this thing and I will continue with it for as long as God wants me to!

God bless and good luck to you always!

    1. That’s a great routine Elizabeth! We can’t be the best at something unless we practice and work at it, so I really commend you for investing in yourself so you can do what you love! It really is the ultimate reward : ) Take care!

  • HUSS-LARIOUS!!!
I felt like you got the inspiration for this from tracking my life, except you take a lot more mundane pictures then I. LOL!!

  • Hilarious…….so funny! I was laughing so hard that almost cried! :)
You can be an ator! :) i agree, on facebook people are always judging, or thinking that people have amazing life…sometimes i have “friends” that Tell me that…..and guess what, i dont have an amazing life but im always Working on that….! ;)
I have to say, that im impressed Matt, you are used to have a drink on your belly? Even when you were laughing the Glass stayed there! ;)
    Routine? Facebook? Lololololol…joking! ;)
    Kisses! #portugal

  • Matttttttt,

So happy you’re keeping that British humor! Hollywood might try and suck it out of you. DON’T give it up, lol. That was hilarious and true, 100%.

  • ”’Hussey House”…we need to edit that out. Sounds like a brothel”…..lol great stuff. Loved the bloopers. Very true about social media. I have to give myself a break from it once in a while. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be a teenager now, with all the social media. I’ve been enjoying all your videos. Keep them going!
