The #1 Conversational Technique That Keeps A Guy Interested On A First Date

Do your words escape you on a first date?

You know you’re an interesting person, but sit you next to a guy, order a drink, and then find you don’t know what to say and suddenly you can’t find anything to talk about!

Should you just randomly grab a topic? Movies? His shirt? The “crazy” weather we’ve been having lately?! (heaven forbid).

In this week’s episode of LOVELife, we go through some REALLY simple conversational foundations that will make you engaging and ensure you never run out of things to talk about.

  • Hi Matthew,
Really wondering what is your thoughts about narsissistic mothers and codependent mother-son relationships and their effects on relationships if the son is unable to set boundries.

  • Hi Matthew,

Oh my goodness, this was pretty much my question I tweeted you today while watching VDay in my Pjs.

Loved the segment, this is exactly what I needed.

My question was what are some great conversation starters, questions and topics. Thanks for this post – The #1 Conversational Technique That Keeps A Guy Interested On A First Date!

Matthew you are truly God sent thank you thank you thank you!

I feel you answer all my questions through your post and website for me, but I just can’t seems to find or attract what the guy I need!

I really have no idea how to change my situation I hoped I was going to win a spot on your retreat as I need your help, I really wish I could afford it!

I have been single now for four years, I was in an 8 year relationship, when I was mentally abused by him and his family, So much so I ended up in hospital from the stress and anxiety, that I decided to call off our wedding 2 weeks prior, he begged me to stick around and work something, this continued for 3 years, some how, I found out he was dating someone else for a year… Basically I approached the girl via social media to confirm this, he turned around and abused and accused me of being a bitch and ruining his life..

Long story short, I was young naive and hadn’t set my standards, I had many a lessons to learn to grow up and become the strong confident amazing woman I am today!

I thank God everyday for saving me, to one day have the most amazing man who will compliment me in everywhere, who I will be able to laugh with cry with be myself around him and spend how many every years I am on this earth.

The only hurdle I have is I have realized my ex family and him took the greatest thing I had was my trust and not being afraid of what might happen, I have worked through many of the issues I have had since that relationship and in the last year have opened myself and truly want to find the man, but I find fault and quickly cut them off, I don’t know is it cause I know what it is I want or is it my fear.

And the other problem is everyone trying to push what they think and feel I should be in my life, I’m 36 years of age and without fail at family gatherings relatives just have to make me feel crap for being single, I believe Im gonna spend my life with this man and it could equate to 30+ years that’s a long time, so I better be sure he’s the one for me.

Anyways apologies for the long emails.

Thank you for your work to help people!

    Take care

    1. I think one of the most important things is being aware when there is a problem (like trust – which, remember, someone should earn your trust over time based on their actions).

You also state your problem and admit exactly what you need to work on. A lot of people don’t do that.

      You’re at least 40% there.

Next figure out what are tangible action steps you can take to recognize/evaluate/allow a guy to earn your trust. Figure if you need to calm down more and stick around when you habit tells you to bail.

Habits can change, and old habits be replaced by new ones.
