I have a male friend/crush who really struggles with his emotions, is very anxious and burnt out while being incredibly focused on being a successful man, and he does incredible things and always helps others.
I had a really bad day the other day; after some self soothing, I bumped into him and he was incredibly supportive. However it made me sad that at the end of the day, he said had he been in that position, he would not have allowed it to derail his day i.e. would have suppressed his emotions. I don’t take it as a personal slight; it’s clear this attitude stops him connecting emotionally with others and himself, and is unable to show the same compassion he showed me to himself. So I’m grateful that more discussion from men about the strength of identifying and processing emotions is increasing like here.
