  • I wasn’t expecting this to be a hard question to answer! If I had to choose, it would be a supportive man. I would rather my hot teammate who’s going to have my back and help me keep our spirits lifted in the fight. That’s the kind of guy I’d want to come home to.

Btw, I made that list! I may have to detail it a little further once I watched the video again. Great advice as always, sir.

  • Thanks for that. It really sums up what this game is all about, and what mistakes we make.
I’ve still got ways to go, but I can honestly answer this one with “yes”

    As for the charactaristic:

#1 would go to supportive as well.
He needn’t have the same belief-system, interests or hobbys as long as long as he can still understand and support me on the way

  • Yes I would. I am an interesting fun happy person. I am also a great mom. I am independent and don’t ask for too much.

  • Love u Matthew!
    I agree!!!
I wrote a letter about the type of guy i want two months ago… and put the letter in my cupboard..

I read it yesterday together with the man I am with today.. just to see how much he is what i wanted.. and i was in shock…

he is everything!!! and i mean everything i wrote out…
and you know how you always talk about unique combinations..
    how its rare,,,,
and i know its rare as ive been dating around for a while now looking for the guy who would have it all.. not just some things i like.. bat has it all.. no point settling…
and now i finally found him…

and i have been following your stuff for ages!!
yo are liretally my biggest inspiration!!!

ii know most things about men and relationships and myself from your material.. man myth and how to get the guy plus ur youtube videos and articles and radio shows….
without ur stuff i would be lost and making the same mistakes with men that i did few years ago..

Now i would say the main key points taken from you and experience that I’ve had so far of finding, getting and keeping the guy.. i would say:

Have self-worth as know what u are worth
set standards of what you want in a guy
    be social and approachable
    start conversations/ meet new people!
dont lose hope and keep going no matter what
never settle.. if it doest feel right from beginning its usually not right..
oh and drive to be the best version of yourself!

btw i was in your London live event, remember the one on stage with u… and now i finally found him.. im so happy…
and i thank you for it, its me who made it happen but with your help, knowledge and bit of luck:))

  • and yes I would date myself any time because im so awesome and have developed myself in so many ways that im the best version of myself and fun to be around:))

  • Did you just list out your criteria Matt? Hahhahhaa yep a 27…amazing in the bedroom bla bla…sexy and good looking…a billionaire who spanks people (not in public)…hahhhaa you are funny. Truly funny!

  • This is certainly a healthy exercise. However, I think you need to take into account that women and men tend to value very different features in a potential partner. I want to date a man who takes charge, initiates and likes to lead. However, I’m pretty sure this kind of man would not be attraced to me if I also liked to lead and initiate in a relationship. Also, people who are more inclined to introversion are generally more attracted to extroverts and vice versa.

So yes, even if things like being kind, attentive and having boundaries is important in both sexes, I don’t think you should strive to behave in the exact same manner as you’d want the person you’d like to attract to behave.

    1. Excellent points you brought up here. There are qualities you are looking for in another person precisely because you might not have then yourself. That person can make you a better person because they have the qualities you do not have and visa versa.

  • LOVED THIS!! :)

I’d say the most important thing for me, at the top of my head, would be for him to be tolerant (not mean for example).

  • The first I wrote was “inspirational”.

Thank you Matthew, this is very important – and inspirational – what you’re doing. You give us access to things we’ve never ever heard or had the idea to ask ourselves for most of us. We’ve been so surrounded by stupid ideas that keep us from changing and freeing ourselves. This is so helpful.

I have a serious problem with boundaries and this is very helpful. I’m searching for answers everywhere, and you give one of the most helpful answers I found to free myself from a victim status which is so hard to change, because I’ve been so blinded by so many wrong ideas I’ve been hearing all my life.

I feel very grateful for your work. Thanks a lot.

  • Number one: Can he communicate clearly with me when things get difficult? Most men really, really can’t.

But there’s someone out there somewhere who will be able to!

  • Matt,

this is simply brilliant. It takes _everything_ into account. This one is by far my favourite blog post and video so far as it helped me get instant knowledge about both what I want and what I can bring to the table.

I actually sat down and wrote down 12 qualities I want in a man (yes there are many more, they just didn’t come to my mind and I can always update my list).

So after this exercise I gotta say: no, I would probably not date myself. I’m a great person but I do not communicate when there’s a problem because I’m afraid of the other person’s reaction. This is a trait my partner has to have, so of course I need to have it too. I’m working in it.

  • A weird sense of humor, muscle tone, and talent.

Good thing I only gotta get to work on the muscle tone ;)

I love it when you lecture us, Matt. Don’t be afraid to give us a little bit of tough love from time to time.

  • … Not sure why I cannot put on some emoji in my comment – so it appears to be incomplete. :( … To complete it, I was going to say: If I write down the whole list, I will kiss myself in the mirror! Lol

  • Thank you so much Matt! This is a very insightful topic. I truly appreciate hearing this message as I continue to strive to be the person that I want to be.

  • Hi Matt,

Again, your advice is invaluable. This was excellent. It validates my own life experiences. For example, in every serious relationship I have been in, the man in my life has invariably asked of me things he admitted he would never do himself for the sake of the relationship. The men in my life always have wanted me to make all the sacrifices and they make none. I have been asked to take all the risks while they risk nothing. I think the better way is to compromise and meet them half way with shared risk / sacrifice, but they never would agree to that so I left.

So, I make it a point never to ask of a man something I would not do myself as I have found that it is a terrible thing to do to someone. It really erodes a relationship and is hypocritical.
